Adkins, Kerry - Mr. Adkins is the president and owner of Adkins OnTime Electric, a home electrical service provider serving Jefferson and Shelby counties. He has served on the Board of Directors for the past three years and has performed volunteer work at the Village. He is an active member of Church of the Highlands where he also volunteers for Children’s Harbor. He has been married to his wife Carol since 1985 and they have one son.

Bennett, Cornelius - Cornelius is a graduate of Ensley High School, played for the University of Alabama from 1983-1986. As a senior, he won the Lombardi Award and SEC Player of the Year honors. He played in the National Football League with The Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colt. He was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

Boswell, Kathy – Kathy is the Director of Community Evolvement with Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Prior to joining Princeton Baptist, she worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. She is the Youth Choir Director at St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church. This is her first year on the Board and she is a member of the Education and Life Development Committee.

Broach, Anthony - Mr. Broach is an Operations Supervisor with United Parcel Service. He has also worked with United Way of Central Alabama as a Loaned Executive for campaign year 2010.

Brown, Michelle - Michelle is a graduate of The University of Alabama & Birmingham School of Law.  She is a Community Volunteer who also serves on the Junior Board of the YWCA of Cental Alabama.  She is also a previous board member of the North Central Alabama Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Michelle is married to H. Lanier Brown, II and the mother of two daughters, Olivia 6 1/2 & Grace Lanier 4 1/2.

Cain, Tanita – Tanita is the President/CEO of Advantage Equipment, LLC, a top emerging small business company. Ms. Cain is involved with the National Urban Professional Group as well as the local chapter of First Fridays Birmingham, a nationally recognized networking social for young urban professionals. Tanita volunteers her time tutoring within the Birmingham City Schools. She serves on the Board of South Regions Minority Supplier Development Council as well.

Devane, Denis – Mr. Devane is a retired senior health care executive. He served in the acute hospital, rehabilitation, and health care device and services businesses. Following his retirement, Mr. Devane has been active on the Boards of several not-for-profit organizations. He is past Board Chairman of Children’s Village, current Board Chairman of Impact Family Counseling, and a Board member of New Beginnings Foundation. Mr. Devane also is on the Advisory Board of the Alabama Sentencing Commission.

Echeverri, Tonisha – Tonisha is employed with Vulcan Materials Company as a Graphic Designer. She has served in this capacity since 2007. Prior to that, Mrs. Echeverri worked for Just Rite Printing. This is Mrs. Echeverri’s first year on the Board of Children’s Village and she is a member of the Public Relations Committee. Tonisha served as Secretary for VEDA (Vulcan Employee Development Assoc.) during the 2009-2010 term and will serve as VP of Activities for the 2010-2011 term.

Edwards, Barbara Wallace (Member at Large) – Ms. Edwards is a Divisional Contract Project Manager for Cahaba GBA. She has served as a board member for three years, and was recently selected to serve as chairperson of the Public Relations Committee. She has worked extensively as a community volunteer in various capacities for over 30 years.

Forest, Angie – Angie Forest is the Resources and Planning Manager for Cahaba Government Benefit Administrators®, LLC, a CMS Medicare Administrative Contractor. She has been a member of the board for 2 years and serves on the Personnel and Education & Life Committees.

Freeman, John E. - Mr. Freeman is the retired Vice President and Corporate Counsel of United States Pipe and Foundry Company, LLC. He volunteers his time at Avondale United Methodist Church.

Huntley, Elizabeth - Mrs. Huntley is an attorney a the law firm of Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC.  She serves as co-chair of the fundraising committee for Children’s Village.

Kallon, Abdul – Abdul is a United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Alabama. Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Abdul practiced law with the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings. He has served on the Board since 2002 and is currently the Chair of the Board.

Landrum, Candy – Candy Landrum is an Associate Dean at Virginia College . Prior to her promotion, she served as Instructor, Academic Coordinator, and Program Director. Candy is retired from Jefferson County Board of Education where she was a classroom instructor for 30 years. She has just recently joined the Children’s Village Board and is a member of the Education and Life Development Committee.

Margison, Richard (Treasurer, Immediate Past President) - Richard Margison is Vice President for Financial Affairs and Administration at UAB.  He has served on the Board since 2002 and currently holds the position of Treasurer and serves as the chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.

Miller, Carole G. – Carole G. Miller is a shareholder in the law firm of Maynard,Cooper & Gale, P.C. In her law practice, she advices employers and helps them to comply with the various state and federal employment laws. She has been a board member since 2007 and is now serving as the head of the Personnel Committee.

Mills, Derrick A. – Derrick A. Mills is a lawyer with the firm of Marsh, Rickard & Bryan. Derrick graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law and clerked for the Honorable U.W. Clemon after law school. After his clerkship, Derrick practiced with the firm of Lightfoot, Franklin & White, before joining Marsh, Rickard & Bryan in 2007.

Owens, Shanta – Judge Owens is a Criminal District Court Judge for the Tenth Judicial Circuit of Jefferson County, Alabama. She currently presides over the Jefferson County Drug Court program, a rehabilitation program for nonviolent drug offenders. This is her first year on the Board and she is a member of the Public Relations Committee.
Ridley, Tracie Tracie Ridley is employed with the Alabama Power Company as a Regulatory Analyst. She has served in this capacity since 2004. She has been with the company for 12 years. This is her first year on the Board and is a member of the Board’s Fundraising Committee.

Salary, Veronica - Veronica is an instructor at Miles College and is a member of Progressive Minister’s Wives and Widows Association.  She is a graduate of Miles College and Michigan State University. Veronica has served in the Birmingham School System as a classroom instructor, mentor teacher, assistant principal, and principal.

Sheffield, Erica - Erica Sheffield serves as Counsel in the Corporate Services Division at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, where she advises management regarding compliance with federal and state laws, including anti-discrimination, immigration, and worker’s compensation laws.  Erica is a graduate of Tulane University and received her degree from Emory University.  She is the proud mother of two sons, ages 2 and 7. She has served on the Board for several years now and is currently a member of the Personnel Committee.

Simmons, Earlie (Assistant Chair)Mrs. Simmons has been a member  of the board for six  years.  Mrs. Simmons is a Commercial Underwriter with EMC Insurance Company and has been instrumental in facilitating repairs and beautification of the boys and girls home.  She has created  a network of supporters who regularity volunteer and give to the  ongoing work of Children’s Village.  She brings  expertise to the board in the area of insurance and risk management.  Mrs. Simmons is actively involved in professional, civic and social organizations and is dedicated to improving the lives of children.

Sims, Brian M.D. – Dr. Sims is a Neonatologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Cell Biology at the University of Alabama — Birmingham School of Medicine.  Dr. Sims has served on the Board for the last several years and is currently on the Fundraising and Public Relations Committees.

Studdard, Emily – Ms. Studdard is a retired educator of the Jefferson County, Alabama School System. She is a member of Rising Star Baptist Church where she serves as member of the Trustee Board, Christian Education Board and chairperson of the White-Smith Scholarship committee. Despite her extensive community work, Ms. Studdard is known best as the very supportive and successful mother to American Idol 2003, Ruben Studdard. This is her first year on the Board and she is a member of the Education and Life Development and Public Relations Committees.

Williams, Candace - Candace is a native of Bessemer, AL and graduated with her Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree in Communications from Auburn University.  She returned to Birmingham upon graduation and worked for seven years in Marketing with the largest electrical utility company in Alabama.  Now, she is employed with ITT Technical Institute as a Career Services Specialist.  She assist students and graduates find and secure employment in their field of study by providing professional development and creating relationship with industry leaders.

Wood, T.K. – Mr. T.K. Wood is employed with Regions Financial as Assistant Vice President in Business Banking. He has served in this capacity since 2007. Prior to that, Mr. Wood worked for Wells Fargo. This is his first year on the Board and is a member of the Board’s Finance Committee.
