Children's Village, Inc.
Our Mission

Children’s Village, Inc. will provide a home that will allow our children to grow and develop in all areas of their lives. We will provide a “family unit” for children who have been orphaned, abused, neglected, or have broken family relationships. This will be accomplished by providing them with unconditional love, a spiritual foundation, and positive parental guidance. Intellectual, educational, and enrichment programs are provided. We also encourage positive social relationships and community activities.
Faith “we have a strong foundation”
Family Unity “we are a family”
Commitment “we keep our promises”
Accountability “we are here for the children”
Transitional Living Home
We recently acquired a third home that is adjacent to our existing properties. We plan to develop this property into a Transitional Home for children aging out of the foster care system. This recently acquired property needs repairs before it can become operational.

History
In approximately 1950 a policeman in the North Birmingham area picked a small boy up one night. Upon investigation, it was found he knew nothing of his father and had been deserted by his mother. He was placed in the city jail because no facilities existed which would provide care.
Ms. B. G. King became aware of this little boy’s plight due to her connection with the Children’s Aid Society at the time. She related this incident to all she came in contact with and was encouraged by her associates to begin creating a facility to house such children.
In as much as she was president of what was then “The Birmingham Baptist Minister’s Wives Study Club”; she solicited their help and support. Mr. Howard Long, an acquaintance of Mrs. King’s husband, Rev. B. G. King allowed the group to take over the balance of payments on the 5 1/4 acres where the facility now stands.
